Things You Forget About the Houston Heat

The Houston Heat... Sounds like a sports team. Wait, that's the Miami Heat. You know I just googled that , right? I'm some sports fan. For the past few days the temperatures have been reaching the 90s. There are just some things you forget about the hot weather and how it affects your life until it hits:

  1. The importance of NOT walking on the concrete barefoot. You could get 3rd degree burns on the bottoms of your feet.
  2. The car conundrum: Do you put the boys in their seats and then turn on the a/c, therefore risking heat stroke? Or do you turn on the a/c, then put the boys in their seats, possibly risking them running off while you're starting up the car, or every mother's nightmare, some madman jumping in the car and driving away before you yourself can get into the driver's seat?
  3. How disgusting it feels to have your shirt sticking to your back.
  4. The way your heart races before you open the electric bill every month.
  5. The most dreaded words you could possibly hear: "Let's go to the park!" And if you in fact do go to the park, don't forget the little boys will get that "outdoors" smell. Ewwwww.
Here's to surviving the heat! And the mosquitos, but that's a whole other topic!

Okay, so it was warm here today, but I don't miss the Houston humidity. But I have seen some mosquitos here that I thought were small birds. :)

Right on, to add a few more.
1. Permanent bad hair from humidity.
2. Sweating after getting out of the car and getting into wherever you are going.

Good things
1. Swimming pools
2. Sprinklers
3. No school

To answer your question: I teach preschool three mornings a week where the kids attend. Seems simple enough, but a lot of work. I also grade SAT essays online for two weeks some months of the year.

Have a great Mother's Day
